Le vendredi 17 août au matin, l’AVO a détecté, grâce aux instruments installés sur les volcans voisins, une nouvelle explosion de faible intensité sur le Cleveland. Les satellites n’ont pas détecté de nuage de cendre suite à cet événement. C’est la 20ème explosion du Cleveland depuis le 25 décembre 2011.

On Friday August 17th in the morning, another small explosion from Cleveland was detected by seismic and infrasound instruments on neighbouring volcanoes. No evidence of an ash cloud was visible in satellite views following the event. It was the twentieth explosion at Cleveland since December 25th, 2011.

La phase d’inflation du Kilauea est terminée. Depuis hier, le volcan connaît un rapide dégonflement. Reste à savoir si le gonflement enregistré pendant plusieurs jours aura une influence sur le débit des coulées sur le pali et la plaine côtière. .
Inflation has stopped on Kilauea. Since yesterday, the volcano has been going through rapid deflation. It will be interesting to see if the past several-day inflation has an effect on lava output on the pali and the coastal flat.
Le Tongariro a émis un peu de cendre pendant les jours qui ont suivi l’éruption mais aucune nouvelle activité n’a été observée ces derniers jours. L’activité sismique est redevenue normale. En conséquence, le niveau d’alerte a été abaissé de 2 (petite acticité éruptive) à 1 (signes d’acticité volcanique). Toutefois, la couleur du niveau d’alerte pour l’aviation reste Jaune (le volcan connaît une activité supérieure à la normale).
Minor amounts of ash were emitted from Tongariro during the first few days after the eruption, but there had been no new activity recently. Seismic activity has returned to normal low levels. As a consequence, the alert level has been reduced from level 2 [minor eruptive activity] to level 1 [signs of volcano unrest]. The aviation colour code which indicates that the “Volcano is experiencing signs of elevated unrest above known background levels” remains at Yellow.
Même si la situation n’a rien d’alarmant pour le moment, El Hierro mérite à nouveau notre attention car la sismicité est en hausse, en particulier dans le secteur d’El Golfo. La différence avec les essaims sismiques précédents, c’est que les derniers enregistrés par les sismographes ne se situent plus à une vingtaine de kilomètres de profondeur, mais à seulement une dizaine. Leur magnitude reste faible (en général inférieure à 2) mais suffisante pour montrer qu’un certain remue-ménage se produit dans le sous-sol. La couleur du niveau d’alerte reste Verte, mais la situation doit être sérieusement contrôlée.
Even if the situation is by no means alarming for the moment, El Hierro deserves again our attention as seismicity has been increasing in the El Golfo area. There is a difference with the preceding seismic swarms: this time, the quakes are shallower, at depths of about 10 km, instead of 20 km previously. Their magnitude is low (usually less than M 2) but enough to show that something is happening in the underground. The colour of the alert level is still Green all over the island but the situation should be monitored closely.
