Stromboli (Sicile / Italie)

Voici un résumé fait par l’INGV des derniers événements observés sur le Stromboli :

– Peu après 9h35 le 17 octobre, un spattering continu a débuté dans l’une des deux bouches situées dans la partie nord de la terrasse cratérique. Cette activité s’est poursuivie pendant deux heures avant de cesser progressivement.

– Pendant la nuit du 18 au 19 octobre, le hornito qui se trouve à proximité de la Sciara del Fuoco a commencé lui aussi un vigoureux épisode de spattering suivi de l’ouverture d’une bouche à sa base de laquelle est sortie une coulée de lave qui s’est dirigée vers le nord du cratère. Elle est ensuite descendue dans une petite dépression où elle a formé un petit delta en éventail. Cette activité effusive a continué faiblement jusqu’au 23 octobre au soir.

– Le 24 octobre, le hornito mentionné ci-dessus ne montrait plus qu’une faible activité mais un vigoureux spattering a repris après minuit.

– A partir du 23 octobre au soir, avec l’arrêt de l’effusion de lave, l’activité explosive a repris dans la partie nord du cratère, avec une série de fortes explosions. Ce type d’activité a brutalement cessé le 24 octobre au matin et a été suivi de l’activité strombolienne habituelle.

– En ce moment, l’activité explosive du Stromboli est conforme à la normale, avec des explosions d’intensité faible à moyenne.

 

Here is a summary of the recent events on Stromboli released by INGV:

–  Shortly after 9:35 on October 17^th, continuous spattering started from one of the two vents in the northern part of the crater terrace. This activity continued for nearly two hours before stopping gradually.

– During the night between October 18^th and 19^th,  the hornito located near the Sciara del Fuoco began to produce vigorous spattering followed by the opening of a new vent at its base, from which issued a small lava flow that travelled northward across the crater terrace. It then descended into a depression to the east, where it formed small, fan-shaped delta. This effusive activity continued at a low rate until the evening of October 23^rd.  

– On October 24^th, the hornito showed only weak activity, but vigorous spattering resumed after midnight.

– From the evening of October 23^rd, with the cessation of the lava effusion, explosive activity resumed in the northern portion of the crater terrace with a series of strong explosions. This phase of activity ended abruptly late in the morning of October 24^th and was followed by normal strombolian activity.
– Right now, the explosive activity of Stromboli is continuing at normal, low-to-medium levels.
