Les scientifiques du département des Sciences de la Terre à l’Université d’Islande ont décrété que l’éruption qui a commencé au col de Fimmvörduhals entre les glaciers Eyjafjallajökull et Myrdalsjökull entre le 20 mars et le 12 avril, avant de reprendre au sommet de l’Eyjafjallajökull le 14 avril, est maintenant officiellement terminée. Les derniers signes éruptifs au sommet de l’Eyjafjallajökull ont été observés à la mi-juin. Toutefois, la zone reste encore active sur le plan géothermique. Le conduit éruptif reste brûlant et son refroidissement prendra peut-être plusieurs années.

Scientists at the University of Iceland’s Institute of Earth Sciences now consider that the volcanic eruption which began on Fimmvörduhals between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull on March 20th and lasted until April 12th, and continued in the summit crater of Eyjafjallajökull on April 14th, is over. The last spew came out of the Eyjafjallajökull summit crater in mid-June. However, the area is still geothermally active and the eruption channel is still scorching hot. The cooling can take a few years.
