Trop occupés à raconter des balivernes à propos du Katla ou du Laacher See, les journalistes ne parlent plus d’El Hierro. Pourtant, l’Instituto Geográfic Nacional (IGN) indique dans ses derniers rapports que l’éruption sous-marine se poursuit au sud de La Restinga. Le tremor a disparu pendant quelques heures le 28 décembre 2011 avant de reprendre de la vigueur vers 16h35 ce même jour. On observe encore très souvent des morceaux de lave ainsi que des matériaux plus fins à la surface de l’océan au-dessus de la zone d’émission.
On a enregistré 24 séismes entre le 28 décembre et le 3 janvier. La plupart étaient concentrés dans la partie centrale d’El Hierro, avec des débordements au nord et au sud de l’île. Ils se situaient à des profondeurs entre 9 et 23 km, avec une magnitude maximale de M 2,5. Les données GPS indiquent que les déformations du sol sont très faibles.

Too busy with their balderdash about Katla and Laacher See, the media no longer mention El Hierro. However, the Instituto Geográfic Nacional (IGN) reports that the submarine eruption is going on south of La Restinga.  The tremor signal almost disappeared for a few hours on December 28th, before increasing again at approximately 16:35. Most of the time, large lava fragments and fine material can be observed on the emission area.
Twenty-four seismic events were located between December 28th and January 3rd, most of them grouped in the central part of the island, extending offshore both to the N and S. The depth of most of these events ranged between 9 and 23 km, with a maximum magnitude of M 2.5. GPS data analyses show very little deformation.

Suite à une augmentation de la sismicité le 31 décembre 2011 et son intensification le 2 janvier 2012, avec apparition d’incandescence au sommet, le niveau d’alerte du Lewotolo est d’abord passé de 1 à 2, puis de 2 à 3 (sur une échelle de 4) le 2 janvier. Hier jeudi, quelque 500 personnes ont décidé d’abandonner leurs maisons bien que le gouvernement n’ait pas décrété d’évacuation officielle.

Il y a actuellement 7 volcans indonésiens en alerte de niveau 3 : Lewotolo, Kawah Ijen, Gamalama, Papandayan, Karangetang, Lokon et Krakatau.

 

Due to an increase in seismicity on December 31st and an intensification on January 2nd with incandescence at the summit, the alert level of Lewotolo was first raised from 1 to 2 , then from 2 to 3 (on a scale of 4) on January 2nd. Yesterday, 500 residents or so decided to abandon their homes although no official evacuation has been decided by the government.

There are currently 7 Indonesian volcanoes at level 3: Lewotolo, Kawah Ijen, Gamalama, Papandayan, Karangetang, Lokon and Krakatau.
