Eruption de l’Ubinas (Pérou)

drapeau francaisD’après un rapport spécial que vient de m’adresser l’Institut Géophysique du Pérou, l’Ubinas a connu une grise éruptive le 8 avril à 4h24 (heure locale) avec des retombées de cendre sur les localités proches du volcan. L’éruption s’est produite après quatre mois de calme. Le panache de cendre est monté jusqu’à 2500 mètres au-dessus du cratère et il était prévu qu’il s’étire sur une quinzaine de kilomètres vers le SE. Il a été conseillé aux habitants d’utiliser des masques anti-poussière, de protéger l’eau et la nourriture à cause du risque de contamination par la cendre.

Le 31 mars 2004, une éruption de l’Ubinas avait entraîné l’évacuation de la population de Querapi à 5 km du volcan. Ensuite, le 21 avril, les autorités avaient ordonné l’évacuation des camélidés car l’activité volcanique risquait de se poursuivre.

drapeau anglaisAccording to a special report I have just received from the Geophysical Institute of Peru, Ubinas volcano erupted on April 8th at 4:24 a.m. (local time) causing a layer of ash to fall over nearby villages minutes later. The event occurred after about four months of calm. The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (SENAMHI) calculated that the 2.5 km column of ash above the crater could reach more than 15 kilometres to the southeast. Local populations are advised to protect themselves with masks and to protect water resources and food to prevent contamination.

On March 31st, 2014, an eruption caused Querapi residents (5 km from the volcano) to be evacuated. Days later on April 21st, authorities ordered the evacuation of the camelid animals, as the volcano posed a threat following further activity.

Turrialba (Costa Rica): Ça recommence! // Turrialba is doing it again!

drapeau francaisCela devient une habitude: Le Turrialba a connu un nouvel épisode éruptif le 7 avril vers 2 heures du matin, avec la projection de matériaux incandescents et une colonne de cendre qui est montée jusqu’à 2 km de hauteur. Le moment le plus spectaculaire de l’événement s’est produit lorsque les images de la webcam (voir ci-dessous) ont montré un faisceau de flammes au milieu du nuage de cendre.

Des retombées de cendre ont été observées jusqu’à Cuidad Quesada et dans des localités comme Alajuela, Escazú, Heredia and Curridabat.

drapeau anglaisIt is becoming a habit: Turrialba volcano went through another eruptive episode on April 7th at 2:07 a.m. with a column of hot rocks and ash above the crater. The ash plume reached a height of 2 km. The eruption’s most dramatic moment came 14 seconds into the video (see link below) when a rush of heat from the crater flashed white on the screen.

Ashfall was reported as far away as Cuidad Quesada and across Alajuela, Escazú, Heredia and Curridabat, among other places.

Turrialba (Costa Rica)

drapeau francaisUne nouvelle éruption accompagnée de panaches de cendre s’est produite sur le Turrialba à 11h24 le dimanche 5 avril. Elle a duré une heure. Selon l’OVSICORI, la colonne de cendre a atteint 500 mètres de hauteur et a déversé de grandes quantités de cendre sur les fermes des environs. A 13h30 le volcan émettait encore de grandes quantités de gaz et de vapeur mais très peu de cendre. Il est fait état d’abondantes retombées de cendre à l’est de San José sur les localités de Tres Ríos et San Pedro, ainsi que sur la banlieue ouest de Escazú.

L’OVSICORI a aussi mis en ligne une vidéo accélérée montrant l’éruption depuis l’Irazu très proche. Au début, les touristes se précipitent vers la plateforme d’observation pour voir l’éruption, mais ils regagnent rapidement leurs voitures quand la cendre commence à tomber sur le site. Il faut rappeler qu’il est conseillé conduire très prudemment quand la cendre est en présente sur les routes qui deviennent glissantes comme avec du verglas.

drapeau anglaisAnother ash eruption occurred at Turrialba Volcano at 11:24 a.m. on Sunday and lasted for an hour. According to OVSICORI, the column of ash reached 500 metres into the sky and rained large quantities of ash onto nearby farms. As of 1:30 p.m. the volcano was still emitting large quantities of gas and vapour though very little ash. There are reports of large quantities of ash East of San José in Tres Ríos and San Pedro as well as in the western suburb of Escazú.

OVSICORI has also released a time lapse video showing the eruption seen from nearby Irazu volcano. At the beginning tourists are running to the observation platform to see the eruption but they are quickly moving to their cars when ash starts falling over the site. It should be remembered that you need to drive very carefully when ash is falling on the roads that become slippery, like with ice on them.

La cendre du Shiveluch (Kamchatka / Russie)

drapeau francaisLe Shiveluch reste très actif, avec des explosions qui expédient des nuages de cendre jusqu’à 5 ou 6 km d’altitude. Le 23 mars 2015 , le satellite Landsat 8 a envoyé une photo montrant la trace laissée par les retombées de cendre sur la neige.
