Il y a quelques jours (le 11 août), j’indiquais qu’une éruption s’était produite assez récemment (probablement en avril) sur le volcan sous-marin Axial, au large de l’Oregon. Cette éruption a été découverte par une équipe scientifique américaine qui est actuellement sur le site afin d’y installer des instruments de surveillance du volcan. La chose la plus extraordinaire est que les internautes qui étaient connectés (j’en faisais partie) hier après-midi et en soirée ont pu voir – en direct ! – des images du fond de l’océan à une profondeur variant de 1 à 3 km. Au cours de l’inspection d’un câble destiné à un observatoire sous-marin, les vues des pillow lavas étaient superbes !
Some days ago (on August 11th) I mentioned the recent eruption (probably in April) of the Axial seamount, off the Oregon coast. It was discovered by an American scientific team that is currently back on the site to set up some monitoring equipment. The most extraordinary thing is that people who were connected to the Internet yesterday afternoon and evening (I was one of them!!) were able to see a video stream showing LIVE data 1 – 3 km below the surface!!! During a cable inspection for an underwater observatory, the views of the pillow lavas were fantastic!
