Un séisme de magnitude 3,5 sous l’Haleakala a été ressenti sur les îles de Maui, Molokai, Lanai, ainsi que dans le nord-ouest de la Grande Ile et à Oahu dimanche soir à 20h39. L’épicentre a été localisé à 3 km au SE de Makawao, à une profondeur d’une trentaine de kilomètres.
Selon l’USGS, le séisme serait dû à une réaction de la lithosphère qui doit adapter sa surface au poids de l’Haleakala.

A magnitude-3.5 earthquake beneath Haleakala was felt on Maui, Molokai, Lanai as well as parts of northwest Hawaii Island and Oahu on Sunday night at 8:39. The epicentre was located about 3 km southeast of Makawao at a depth of about 30 km.
According to the USGS, the earthquake may be the result of flexure of the Earth’s lithosphere to accommodate the weight of Haleakala volcano.
