drapeau anglais   The situation is stable and relatively quiet on Kilauea. The level of lava within Halema’uma’u pit crater is quite low and the lava flows pour in narrow streams into the Pacific Ocean, as can be seen on the HVO photos. As far as Pu’uO’o is concerned, on can still observe several incandescent points in the crater. The spatter cone that emitted several lava flows in the past days is barely active and is only “producing gas jetting sounds”.

Belle activité au Stromboli actuellement // Stromboli is quite active these days

drapeau anglais   Stromboli is quite active these days as can be shown on the seismogram here below. It is clear that the magma column is currently quite high within the volcano, which gives birth again this morning to a lava flow down the Sciara del Fuoco. INGV’s latest reports indicate that the intensity of the explosions ranges from medium to high. There is a nice show for the tourists who are visiting Stromboli. Just keep in mind that access to the summit is allowed with the local guides only. There is a free access to the viewing platform located 400 metres a.s.l., which is not so bad to have a look at the explosions and the lava flow.

drapeau anglais   Here are some additional details provided by INGV about the 13th paroxysm of Mount Etna’s SE crater on April 27th. Unlike the previous event, the preliminary phase was long with strombolian activity that began on April 20th, just after the 12th paroxysm. As I wrote while describing the eruptive episode, there were lava fountains whose height is estimated at 300-500 meters by the Institute. Several lava flows were observed on the SE and NE sides of NCSE and the depression between the two cones where the lava  timidly travelled to the N and S. The partial collapse of the E flank of the cone triggerred a pyroclastic flow that moved over 1 km towards the Valle del Bove. The ash clouds generated by the most intense phase of the paroxysm caused ashfall as far as Linguaglossa, Taormina and even Messina. The climax of the paroxysm lasted about two hours, but the volcano really calmed down on April 28th in the morning.

Here is the paroxysm with some music:

drapeau anglais  It’s becoming a habit : one can observe tonight a nice activity on Stromboli volcano with strombolian episodes at the summit and a well-fed lava flow along the Sciara del Fuoco.
