Une bonne vidéo de l’Etna // A nice video of Mount Etna

Etna & Stromboli: Même combat! // It’s the same story!

drapeau francaisL’Etna et le Stromboli continuent à montrer une belle activité.

Une activité strombolienne anime ce soir le sommet du Nouveau Cratère SE tandis que la lave continue à s’écouler sur le versant oriental du cône en formant deux branches.

Dans le même temps, la lave continue à s’écouler le long de la Sciara del Fuoco. Le débit est moins important que ces derniers jours, mais le spectacle reste intéressant. Comme je l’indiquais précédemment, cette effusion de lave a quasiment mis un terme à l’activité strombolienne qui caractérise habituellement le volcan. Strombolian activity can be observed tonight at the top of the New SE Crater while lava keeps flowing on the eastern slope of the cone, dividing into two branches.

At the same time, lava continues to flow along the Sciara del Fuoco. The effusion rate is lower than in recent days, but the show remains interesting. As I put it earlier, this outpouring of lava nearly stopped the strombolian activity that usually characterizes the volcano.

Etna (Sicile / Italie): L’activité du Nouveau Cratère SE // Activity at the New SE Crater

drapeau francaisLes dernières heures ont confirmé ce que j’écrivais dans ma note d’hier 10 août, à savoir la baisse d’activité au pied du Cratère NE et une réactivation du NCSE. En plus de l’activité strombolienne qui affecte le sommet du cône (voir l’image de la webcam L.A.V.E. ci-dessous), une bouche s’est ouverte dans la partie supérieure du versant E, avec une coulée de lave qui a atteint la base du cône. Le tremor est de nouveau en hausse.

Au vu de ces derniers événements, il semblerait qu’il existe une corrélation entre l’activité du Cratère NE et celle du NCSE. Cette corrélation a déjà été observée ponctuellement dans le passé, mais n’a jamais été vraiment confirmée.

drapeau anglaisThe last hours have confirmed what I wrote in my note yesterday August 10th, namely the decrease in activity at the base of the NE Crater and the reactivation of the NCSE. In addition to the strombolian activity that affects the summit of the cone (see webcam image below), a vent opened in the upper part of the eartern flank, with a lava flow that reached the base of the cone. The eruptive tremor is again increasing.
Judging from the recent events, it seems that there is a correlation between the activity of the NE Crater and that of the NSEC. This correlation was punctually observed in the past, but was never really confirmed.

drapeau francaisAlors que l’activité reste en nette régression sur le flanc oriental du Cratère NE, le Nouveau Cratère SE (NCSE) semble disposé à prendre le relais avec, cette nuit, une activité strombolienne à son sommet, enregistrée par la webcam de L’Association Volcanologique Européenne.
