L’Observatoire Volcanologique d’Hawaii nous rappelle que le 18 mai marque le 28ème anniversaire de l’éruption cataclysmale du Mont St Helens, ainsi que le 84ème anniversaire de l’éruption de l’Halema’uma’u. Les deux éruptions ont eu lieu un dimanche et ont tué un homme nommé Truman…
S’agissant de l’éruption actuelle du Kilauea, le retour des alizés a fait disparaître le brouillard qui recouvrait la Grande Ile et Oahu. Le point d’observation des coulées en mer est à nouveau ouvert au public.
HVO reminds us that « today is the 28th anniversary of the fatal explosive eruption of Mount St. Helens and the 84th anniversary of the fatal explosive eruption of Halema`uma`u Crater. Both eruptions took place on a Sunday and killed a man named Truman ».
As far as the current eruption is concerned, trade winds are blowing again so that the unpleasant “vog” has disappeared from the Big Island and Oahu. The viewing point of lava flows in the ocean has been reopened to the public.
