En dépit de l’expiration de son contrat hier 8 mars, l’équipe qui doit essayer juguler la coulée de boue a décidé de continuer son travail pendant encore un mois, en attendant que le gouvernement indonésien mette en place une autre infrastructure.
Il y a quelque temps, le porte-parole de l’équipe avait dit qu’il faudrait prévoir des fonds supplémentaires pour financer le travail de colmatage et pour reloger les populations sinistrées. Jusqu’à présent, 1 trillion de roupies ont déjà été investies dans l’opération de colmatage. Le gouvernement estime que le coût de relocalisation des infrastructures essentielles s’élèvera à plus de 7 trillions de roupies. Le parlement indonésien a suggéré que l’entreprise Lapindo – propriétaire du forage et souvent tenue pour responsable de la catastrophe – soit déchargée du paiement et que la coulée de boue soit déclarée catastrophe nationale.
En attendant, la boue continue à couler et les sinistrés vivent dans des abris de fortune…..

The national team coordinating the response to the mud volcano in East Java has decided to continue working even though its term expired on Thursday March 8th. The contract will be extended for another month until the government establishes a new body.
A short time ago, the team spokesman said that to continue its operation the team would need more funds to stop the outpouring of mud and relocate people in the affected areas.
The team has spent Rp 1 trillion in its efforts to stop the mud gushing.
The House of Representatives has suggested the government should declare the mudflow a national disaster and relieve Lapindo Brantas from paying for the recovery effort. The government has estimated the cost of relocating key infrastructure from inundated areas at more than Rp 7 trillion.
Meantime, mud keeps on flowing and people are still living in shelters….
