Les lahars de l’Ubinas (Pérou)

Le dimanche 12 et le lundi 13 avril 2015, d’impressionnants lahars ont dévalé les flancs du volcan Ubinas.

Ces lahars ont été provoqués par la conjugaison de deux phénomènes : d’une part, les grandes quantités de cendres qui se sont déposées sur les flancs du volcan après l’activité explosive qui a débuté le 8 avril et, d’autre part, des pluies abondantes et la neige sur le volcan les 10 et 11 avril. Les coulées de boue ont bloqué une route d’accès à la ville d’Ubinas.
Il convient de noter que les volcanologues en charge de la surveillance du volcan avaient prévenu l’apparition de ce phénomène, et demandé aux autorités de prendre des mesures préventives dans ce domaine.

On April 12^th and 13^th, impressive lahars rushed down the slopes of Ubinas volcano.

These lahars were caused by the combination of two phenomena: first, the large amounts of ash deposited on the flanks of the volcano after the explosive activity that began on April 8^th and, on the other hand, the heavy rains and snow on the volcano on 10 and 11 April. Mudslides blocked an access road to the town of Ubinas.
It should be noted that volcanologists in charge of the monitoring of the the volcano had warned about the occurrence of this phenomenon, and asked the authorities to take preventive measures.
