Le Kilauea connaît en ce moment une longue phase de gonflement et l’alimentation des coulées au SE du Pu’uO’o semble soutenue puisque la lave a maintenant atteint la base du pali après avoir parcouru cette pente relativement rapidement. Elle a commencé à avancer en direction du littoral, mais sa progression devrait être maintenant beaucoup plus lente. Les paris sont ouverts pour savoir si elle atteindra l’Océan Pacifique, ce qui ne s’est pas produit depuis décembre 2011.
Kilauea is currently going through a long inflation episode so that the lava flows SE of Pu’uO’o are probably well-fed and lava has now reached the base of the pali, after travelling quite rapidly down this slope. It has started moving towards the shore but its progress is likely to be much slower now. There’s no knowing whether it will reach the Pacific Ocean, which has not happened since December 2011.
