John Seach, volcanologue australien signale ce matin une éruption du Rabaul, dans le cratère du Tavurvur. L’événement a apparemment débuté à 8h45 avec un nuage de cendres qui est monté jusqu’à 18 km de hauteur. Ce nuage était zébré d’éclairs d’électricité statique, tandis que le volcan émettait de forts grondements. Le nuage de cendres était si volumineux que la région s’est trouvée plongée dans l’obscurité.
John Seach, an Australian volcanologist, informs us this morning of an eruption of the Rabaul volcano, in the Tavurvur Crater. The event began at 8:45 with an ash cloud that reached an altitude of 18 km a.s.l. It was crossed by flashes of lightning due to static electricity. Meantime, loud rumblings could be heard from the volcano. The ash clouds were so dense that sunlight was stopped and the area was plunged in darkness.
