Etna (Sicile / Italie): Le Nouveau Cratère SE prend le relais!

drapeau francaisAlors que l’activité reste en nette régression sur le flanc oriental du Cratère NE, le Nouveau Cratère SE (NCSE) semble disposé à prendre le relais avec, cette nuit, une activité strombolienne à son sommet, enregistrée par la webcam de L’Association Volcanologique Européenne.

Etna (Sicile / Italie): Vers la fin de l’activité éruptive? // Is eruptive activity coming to an end?

drapeau francaisAu vu du tremor et des images délivrées ce soir par la caméra thermique, il semble que l’activité éruptive au pied du Cratère NE soit en train de s’essouffler. Le tremor décline rapidement et la lave ne semble plus guère s’écouler de la fracture éruptive. Il faut toutefois se montrer prudent, car une saute d’humeur du volcan est toujours possible!

drapeau anglaisJudging from the tremor and the eimages of the thermal camera, it seems eruptive activity on the flank of the NE Crater is about to come to an end. The tremor is declining rapidly and there is very little lava coming out of the eruptive fissure. However, one needs to be cautious as a new outbreak of activity remains possible.

Ubinas (Pérou): Des vidéos de l’activité actuelle // Videos of current volcanic activity

drapeau francaisL’Institut Géophysique du Pérou vient de me faire parvenir trois vidéos montrant l’activité récente de l’Ubinas.

La première vidéo, tournée le 31 juillet 2014, montre l’arrivée de l’équipe scientifique à proximité du cratère alors qu’une explosion vint de se produire. Le nuage de cendre est en train de s’évacuer mais on entend les lapilli qui tombent encore sur le sommet du volcan.

Le document suivant montre l’intérieur du cratère avec les gaz qui s’échappent des évents éruptifs. Une épaisse couche de cendre recouvre l’intérieur du cratère. Les images me rappellent l’intérieur des cratères du Bromo ou du Semeru en Indonésie.

Une vidéo accélérée montre l’activité de l’Ubinas le 8 août 2014. Hormis quelques explosions de temps à autre, le volcan traverse actuellement une période relativement calme.

drapeau anglaisThe Geophysical Institute of Peru has just sent me three videos showing recent activity at Ubinas volcano.

The first video, shot on July 31st, 2014, shows the arrival of the scientific team near the crater when an explosion had just occurred. The ash cloud has started to move away but lapilli are still falling on the summit of the volcano.

The following document shows the crater with gases escaping from the eruptive vents. A thick layer of ash covers the interior of the crater. The images remind me of the inside of the craters of Bromo and Semeru in Indonesia.

A time lapse video shows activity at Ubinas on August 8th, 2014. Apart from some occasional explosions, the volcano is going through a relatively quiet period.
