Nevado del Huila (Colombie)

Très peu connu, c’est le volcan actif le plus haut de Colombie. Il vient de connaître deux crises éruptives le 19 février à 8h30 et 8h53 (heure locale), avec des colonnes de gaz et de cendres s’élevant jusqu’à 600 m au-dessus du cratère. Il est demandé aux habitants des villages blottis sur ses flancs d’être vigilants et de surveiller en particulier le débit du Rio Páes. En effet, le volcan culmine à 5365 m et est recouvert d’une calotte de glace susceptible de fondre sous l’effet de la chaleur.
La dernière éruption connue a eu lieu au 16ème siècle, probablement vers 1555.

Little known, this volcano is the highest active in Colombia. It went through two eruptive crises on February 19th at 8:30 and 8:53 (local time), with gas and ash columns rising up to 600 m above the crater. Villagers on its slopes are asked to be watchful, especially as regards the Rio Páes. Indeed, there is an ice cap on top of the volcano, which might melt under the effect of the heat.
The last known eruption dates back to the 16th century, probably in 1555
