Par précaution, les autorités islandaises viennent de fermer à la circulation la vallée de Thórsmörk car il existe un risque important d’inondation en provenance de la langue glaciaire du Gígjökull. Comme je l’ai indiqué précédemment, un lac s’est formé dans le cratère de l’Eyjafjallajökull et, si elle se libère brutalement, cette eau peut venir gonfler de manière très soudaine la rivière Markarfljót qui coule dans la vallée de Thórsmörk, lieu de randonnée très populaire en Islande et qui a défrayé la chronique durant la phase éruptive de Fimmvörduháls.

As a precaution, Icelandic authorities have just closed down Thórsmörk Valley to traffic because of the danger of flash flooding down the Gígjökull glacier. A lot of water seems to be sitting in the crater of Eyjafjallajökull glacier and this water is bound to burst down the Gígjökull glacier sooner or later. These waters will surge into the Markarfljót River which runs down Thórsmörk valley, a very popular place in Iceland. It was also the scene of the Fimmvörduháls eruption which occurred on the mountain ridge above the valley, creating spectacular lava flows which ran over the ravines and into Thórsmörk
