11 heures: A 8h15 ce matin, on a observé un accroissement soudain du tremor éruptif, qui se traduit au moment où j’écris ces lignes par une forte activité strombolienne avec des fontaines de lave au sommet du Cratère SE. Les images de la webcam montrent parfaitement ce phénomène. De toute évidence, la lave s’écoule de plus belle sur le flanc du cône.
18h30: L’activité au sommet du Cratère SE semble en régression, comme le montre le tremor éruptif dont l’amplitude a baissé depuis la fin de l’après-midi. On n’observe plus de fontaines de lave au sommet du cône Par contre, les émissions de cendres sont relativement importantes et sont emportées par le vent vers le sud.
19h30: Une importante coulée de lave scindée en deux branches vient de faire son apparition sur le versant sud-sud-ouest du Cratère SE. Selon l’INGV de Catane, elle sort d’une fracture qui s’est ouverte sur le versant sud du Cratère SE, déjà fragilisé dans ce secteur. La lave se dirige vers le secteur de l’ancienne Torre del Filosofo. Dans le même temps, une autre coulée continue, comme précédemment, son chemin en direction de la Valle del Bove.
22h30: La lave s’écoule toujours sur le versant sud du Cratère SE, mais le débit est moins important que précédemment, comme l’indique le tremor éruptif qui a nettement perdu de sa vigueur. Au vu des images de la webcam, la lave ne semble pas sortir d’une fracture sur le flanc du cône, mais déborder de la lèvre du cratère. Une fracture entaillant déjà cette partie du cône sud-est, il se peut que les observateurs sur le terrain aient mal interprété le phénomène.

11:00 a.m.: At 8:15 this morning, there was a sudden increase of the eruptive tremor, followed by a strong strombolian activity with lava fountaining at the top of the SE Crater. The images of the webcam are giving at the moment a good view of this activity. It is likely that lava is flowing with an even greater output on the slope of the SE Crater.
18:30: It looks as if the activity on top of the SE Crater is in decline, as well as the eruptive tremor which has somewhow decreased since the end of the afternoon. One can no longer observe lava fountaining, but the ash emissions are relatively high, carried away by the wind towards the south.
19:30: A well-fed lava flow has just appeared on the south-western slope of the SE Crater. According to the INGV of Catania, it is coming out of a fissure that opened on the southern flank of the SE Crater. Lava is flowing towards the area of the former Torre del Filosofo. Meantime, another lava flow is moving, as previously, towards the Valle del Bove.
22:30: Lava is still flowing on the southern flank of the SE Crater, but the output has decreased; so has the eruptive tremor. Judging from the webcam images, lava doesn’t seem to be coming out of a fissure, but overflowing from the rim of the SE Crater. As a fissure was already present on that part of the cone, observers may have been mistaken.

Le temps est bien dégagé ce soir et la webcam montre qu’une coulée de lave en provenance du Cratère SE descend à nouveau dans la Valle del Bove. Au cours des dernières heures, le tremor éruptif avait repris un peu de vigueur et révélait dans le même temps une montée de magma. D’après l’INGV de Catane, plusieurs explosions stromboliennes ont également eu lieu dans la matinée au sommet du Cratère SE.

The weather is clear tonight on the volcano and the webcam shows us that lava from the SE Crater is flowing down again in the Valle del Bove. During the last hours, the eruptive tremor had increased a bit, with signs of a magma ascent. According to the INGV of Catania, several strombolian explosions occurred this morning in the SE Crater.

La journée a été calme sur l’Etna, peut-être trop calme. Aucun écoulement de lave n’est visible sur les images de la webcam; le tremor éruptif a retrouvé son niveau normal, mais il est ponctué ce soir de petits cisaillements qui semblent indiquer des fracturations de roches. Je pense personnellement que du magma est en train de monter à nouveau dans le secteur du Cratère Sud-Est. Le volcan n’a probablement pas dit son dernier mot!

It has been a quiet day on Mount Etna, maybe too quiet. No lava flow can be seen on the webcam images. The eruptive tremor has gone down to its normal level; however, there are signs tonight that some rock fracturing is happening. I personally think that magma is ascending again in the area of the SE Crater. It’s likely that the volcano is not asleep….
