La grande question en Islande ces jours-ci est: quel nom va recevoir le nouveau champ de lave créé par l’éruption en cours? Parmi les 340 suggestions faites par le public entre le 31 mars et le 9 avril, deux noms ont été retenus: Fagradalshraun et Fagrahraun. Dalahraun, Geldingadalshraun et Ísólfshraun ont également été suggérés. Si l’un des noms est accepté, les fractures éruptives seront probablement baptisées Fagradalsgíga ou Fögrugíga.
Fagradalsfjall est une colline qui se dresse près de l’éruption et se trouve au coeur de l’essaim sismique qui a pris fin lorsque l’éruption a commencé.
La colline porte le nom de Fagradalur, ou « Belle vallée ».
La plupart des suggestions faites par le public faisaient référence à des lieux précis de la région. A noter Kórónuhraun, histoire de ne pas oublier le coronavirus !

Among the 340 suggestions from the public between March 31stand April 9th, two possible names have been chosen: Fagradalshraun and Fagrahraun. Dalahraun, Geldingadalshraun, and Ísólfshraun were also suggested.
If one of the names is accepted, the fissures will probably be named either Fagradalsgíga or Fögrugíga.
Fagradalsfjall is a prominent hill close to the eruption and at the very centre of the earthquake swarm that ended when the eruption began. The hill is named after Fagradalur, or Beautiful Valley.
