Ça risque de jaser à la Réunion ! // A billionaire soon to land on the volcano ?

Une information étonnante fait aujourd’hui la une du Journal de l’Ile de la Réunion. Hier mardi, l’un des hélicoptères de Paul Allen, co-fondateur de Microsoft, a survolé l’éruption du Piton de La Fournaise en fin d’après-midi. Les appareils du milliardaire ont effectué plusieurs rotations, sans que l’on sache si Paul Allen était à chaque fois présent l’intérieur.

Selon les informations recueillies par le JIR, l’équipe entourant Paul Allen négocierait avec la préfecture pour se poser dans la zone de l’éruption, ce qui est actuellement interdit, tout comme l’accès du public à l’Enclos Fouqué.  .

A noter qu’un dispositif d’accompagnement du public (moyennant finance) sur les éruptions à l’intérieur de l’Enclos a été testé ce week-end par la préfecture.

Si le milliardaire obtenait effectivement l’autorisation de se poser dans l’Enclos, face à un tel traitement de faveur, on imagine aisément la réaction des très nombreux amoureux du volcan, Réunionnais et touristes qui se voient refuser l’accès au volcan ! Affaire à suivre…. La question est posée: Le fric sera-t-il plus fort que les interdictions?

Je pense personnellement que le Piton de la Fournaise serait bien inspiré de mettre tout le monde d’accord en mettant un point final à son éruption avant que Paul Allen pose le pied sur la lave !

Ce soir, l’éruption continue son petit bonhomme de chemin mais n’est plus guère visible par la webcam du Piton de Bert, probablement parce que le cône a continué à s’édifier autour de la bouche éruptive.

I personally think that it would be a good idea if Piton de la Fournaise put an end to its eruption before Paul Allen sets foot on the lava! It would put an end to all conflict.

Création d’un géoparc en Tanzanie // A new geopark soon in Tanzania

La Tanzanie est en passe de créer son premier géoparc regroupant le Ngorongoro – superbe caldeira volcanique née il y a deux millions d’années – et l’Oldoynio Lenga, volcan actif célèbre pour ses coulées de natrocarbonatite . Différents des parcs nationaux, les géoparcs sont censés être des entités géographiques qui traitent de la protection et de l’utilisation du patrimoine géologique de manière durable, tout en favorisant le bien-être social et économique des personnes résidant dans le parc.
Le Ngorongoro-Lengai sera donc un nouveau géoparc sur le continent africain. Il couvrira une superficie de 12 000 kilomètres carrés dans une région où abondent des collines rocheuses, des grottes, des bassins renfermant des lacs, des sites de découverte d’hominidés, ainsi que le volcan actif Ol Doinyo Lengai.
Selon la Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), organisme qui gère la zone de conservation du Ngorongoro (NCAA), l’objectif est de donner plus d’ampleur au potentiel touristique du pays en introduisant des points d’intérêt basés sur les formations géologiques, l’histoire et les caractéristiques géographiques qui seront rassemblés dans  le géoparc Ngorongoro-Lengai.
Comme je l’ai indiqué précédemment, une récente visite de chercheurs a montré que le Lengai pourrait connaître une éruption à court terme. Le volcan, qui est entouré de sites paléoanthropologiques importants, connaît des éruptions qui sont généralement confinées à son sommet, bien que certaines coulées de lave puissent parcourir plusieurs kilomètres sur ses flancs.

Tanzania is in a fair way to create its first geopark with Ngorongoro, a wonderful caldeira that appeared two million years ago, and Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano made famous by irs natrocarbonatite lava flows. Different from national parks, geoparks are supposed to be a unified geographical area which addresses the protection and the use of geological heritage in a sustainable way, while also promoting social and economic well-being of the people residing within the park.

The Ngorongoro-Lengai Geopark, which is expectedd to cover an area of 12,000 square kilometres of rocky hills, long underground caves, lake basins, hominid discovery sites and the active Ol Doinyo Lengai Volcano, is going to be another geopark on the continent.

According to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), the aim is to expand the country’s tourism potential by introducing attractions based of land formations, geology, history and geographical features all being packaged under the single entity of the Ngorongoro-Lengai Geopark.

As I put it before, a recent visit by researchers has shown that Lengai Volcano might erupt in the short term.The volcano, which is surrounded by important paleoanthropological sites, has been experiencing eruptions that are usually confined to its summit though the lava flow can extend to several miles downhill.
