Eruption du Mont Aso (Japon)

drapeau francaisLe Mont Aso, sur l’île de Kyushu, est entré en éruption lundi matin à 9h43, avec un panache de gaz et de cendre de 2000 mètres de hauteur et l’évacuation de dizaines de touristes.
Jusqu’à maintenant, il n’est fait état d’aucun blessé.
Peu de temps après l’éruption, la compagnie aérienne All Nippon Airways a annoncé qu’elle avait annulé six vols pour éviter le panache de cendre. L’ANA pourrait annuler d’autres vols, en fonction de l’intensité et de la durée de l’éruption. Japan Airlines a également annoncé des annulations de vols.
L’Agence Météorologique Japonaise a fait passer le niveau d’alerte de 2 à 3, ce qui interdit toute approche du volcan.

So far there have been no reports of injuries from the eruption.
Shortly after the eruption, All Nippon Airways announced that they had cancelled six flights to avoid the plume of ash. The ANA might cancel additional flights depending on the intensity and longevity of the eruption. Japan Airlines announced that they had also cancelled some flights.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has upgraded the alert level from 2 to 3, which prohibits people from entering the mountain.

Cotopaxi (Equateur): Le niveau d’alerte reste au Jaune // The alert level is kept at Yellow

drapeau-francaisUn message audio avec une voix de femme non identifiée a circulé et a prétendu à tort que le niveau d’alerte du Cotopaxi est passé du jaune à l’orange. Un porte-parole du gouvernement a déclaré mardi que le niveau d’alerte du volcan reste jaune et il a dissipé les rumeurs qui circulent sur les réseaux sociaux et qui prétendent que le niveau d’alerte est manipulé par les responsables politiques.
Afin d’éviter la diffusion d’informations fausses qui pourraient provoquer la panique, le président équatorien Rafael Correa avait déclaré que seul le Ministère de la Coordination de la Sécurité pourrait publier des informations concernant l’activité volcanique.
La décision n’a pas plu aux journalistes et un certain nombre d’hommes politiques de l’opposition ont tenté de salir le gouvernement sur sa gestion de l’éruption du Cotopaxi, l’accusant d’essayer de profiter du danger pour réprimer les manifestations. Bonjour l’ambiance !

drapeau-anglaisAn audio message with an unidentified woman’s voice has been circulating online that falsely claims the alert level of Cotopaxi volcano has been raised from yellow to orange. A government spokesperson said Tuesday that the alert level at the Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador remains at yellow and dispelled rumours circulating on social media that the danger level is being manipulated by political officials.

In order to avoid the dissemination of false information that could cause panic,  President Rafael Correa declared that only the Coordinating Ministry of Security could issue information regarding volcanic activity.

The decision did not please journalists and a number of opposition politicians have attempted to smear the government over its handling of the possible eruption of the Cotopaxi volcano, accusing it of trying to take advantage of the danger to quell protests.

Baisse du niveau d’alerte du Sakurajima (Japon) // Alert level lowered on Sakurajima (Japan)

drapeau-francaisLa rumeur que j’évoquais dans ma dernière note sur le Sakurajima vient de trouver confirmation : La JMA a décidé aujourd’hui mardi d’abaisser à 3 (sur une échelle de 5) le niveau d’alerte du volcan. La sismicité a baissé et aucun gonflement de l’édifice n’a été observé. La JMA fait toutefois remarquer qu’une éruption reste possible et met en garde sur les retombées de blocs et sur les coulées pyroclastiques qui peuvent survenir dans un rayon de 2 km autour des cratères Showa et Minamidake.

drapeau-anglaisThe rumour I mentioned in my previous note about Sakurajima is confirmed : The Japanese Meteorological Agency announced today Tuesday that it lowered the level from 4 to 3 on a 5-point scale. Seismicity has decreased and no inflation of the volcano has been observed. The agency says an eruption is still possible, and calls for caution against falling volcanic rocks and pyroclastic flows in areas within 2 kilometres of the Showa and Minamidake craters.

drapeau-francaisLa situation a tendance à se stabiliser. L’Agence Météorologique Japonaise (JMA) maintient à 4 (sur une échelle de 5) le niveau d’alerte du Sakurajima. Un ordre d’évacuation a été levé le 22 août pour les quartiers résidentiels situés à moins de 3 km du cratère. La plupart des infrastructures touristiques ont repris leurs activités le 27 août. Une rumeur dit que la JMA pourrait abaisser le niveau d’alerte à 3 le 1er septembre.
Deux petites éruptions ont eu lieu le 28 août vers 11h30 (GMT) et 14h30 (GMT), mais il n’est fait état d’aucun dégât et d’aucune perturbation.
Les voyageurs sont invités à contrôler les bulletins d’activité du Sakurajima et à respecter toutes les directives en provenance des autorités. Une activité volcanique intense peut entraîner la fermeture des aéroports locaux ou des annulations de vols à court préavis.

An evacuation order was lifted on August 22nd for residential districts within 3km of the crater, and most tourist facilities resumed operations on August 27th. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the JMA is likely to lower the alert to level 3 on September 1st.

Two minor eruptions occurred on August 28th around 11:30 am (GMT) and 14:30 (GMT), though there were no reports of damage or disruption.

Travellers are advised to monitor the status of Sakurajima volcano closely and adhere to all directives by the authorities. Heightened volcanic activity may prompt the closure of local airports, flight cancellations at short notice.
