Au vu d’une vidéo diffusée sur YouTube le 5 janvier 2022, il semble que le lac de lave ne soit pas revenu dans le cratère du Nyiragongo (Réppublique Démocratique du Congo). Le survol du volcan montre un point d’incandescence au fond du gouffre, mais rien de vraiment spectaculaire. C’est une bonne nouvelle pour les habitants de Goma et des environs. En effet, on sait que c’est essentiellement la pression exercée par le lac de lave sur les parois du volcan qui tend à faire s’ouvrir des fractures par lesquelles s’échappent les torrents de lave dévastateurs.
L’Observatoire Volcanologique de Goma ne donne pas d’informations sur son site web concernant l’activité volcanique. .

In view of a video posted on YouTube (see above) on January 5th, 2022, it seems that the lava lake has not returned to the crater of Nyiragongo (Democratic Republic of Congo). The flight over the volcano shows a point of incandescence at the bottom of the crater, but nothing really spectacular. This is good news for the people of Goma and the surrounding area. Indeed, we know that it is essentially the pressure exerted by the lava lake on the walls of the volcano that tends to open fissures through which the devastating torrents of lava escape.
The Goma Volcanological Observatory does not provide information on its website regarding volcanic activity. .
