drapeau francaisDeux volcans indonésiens sont entrés en éruption ce lundi, avec des panaches de cendre susceptibles de perturber le trafic aérien et un risque pour les populations qui doivent se tenir prêtes pour une éventuelle évacuation.
Le Sinabung a de nouveau émis de volumineux panaches de cendre jusqu’à 8 km de hauteur. C’est la plus forte crise éruptive de ces derniers jours. Une alerte aérienne a été émise par le Ministère des Transports qui demande aux pilotes d’éviter la zone autour du Sinabung.
Quelques heures plus tôt, le Mérapi (Ile de Java) a envoyé un panache de cendre à 2 km de hauteur, avec des retombées sur plusieurs localités. 600 familles doivent se préparer à une possible évacuation.

Hours earlier, Mount Merapi in Central Java spewed volcanic ash about 2,000 metres into the sky, causing ash to fall in several towns. About 600 families have gathered for a possible evacuation.

Sinabung (Ile de Sumatra / Indonésie) : Poursuite de l’éruption // The eruption continues

drapeau francaisCela fait plusieurs jours que je n’en parle pas mais l’éruption du Sinabung continue et a même tendance à s’intensifier. Les retombées de cendre affectent de plus en plus les villages autour du volcan et ont tendance à dépasser le périmètre de sécurité de 3 km mis en place au début de l’éruption. Le 11 novembre, les autorités ont procédé à de nouvelles évacuations. 2500 habitants de Gurukinayan ont dû quitter leurs habitations car l’activité éruptive avec des explosions et des nuages incandescents se faisait trop menaçante. Les panaches de cendre atteignent une hauteur de 4 km tandis que des avalanches pyroclastiques dévalent les flancs du volcan sur plusieurs centaines de mètres. Les villageois ont été relogés dans une zone éloignée du Sinabung, donc à l’abri du danger. Aucune victime n’a été recensée jusqu’à présent mais il est fait état de problèmes de santé parmi les réfugiés..

Les villages situés à plusieurs kilomètres du volcan sont recouverts de cendre et l’économie locale basée sur l’agriculture est pratiquement paralysée.

En recouvrant la région d’une couche de cendre, le Sinabung perturbe sérieusement l’approvisionnement en denrées alimentaires. En particulier les légumes du nord de l’île de Sumatra ne sont plus expédiés vers l’île de Batam et plusieurs autres secteurs des îles Riau. Cette pénurie a bien sûr entraîné une hausse brutale des prix qui se traduira par une hausse de l’inflation. Par exemple, au cours des dernières semaines, le prix du piment rouge sur l’île de Batam a atteint 40 000 roupies (2,60 euros) le kilo, contre 18 000 roupies auparavant. On espère que les prix redeviendront raisonnables quand  l’éruption du Sinabung sera terminée.
