Le San Cristobal a connu trois épisodes éruptifs successifs ce matin, avec l’émission de panaches de gaz et de cendre jusqu’à 1500 mètres de hauteur. Plusieurs milliers de familles ont dû être évacuées dans la province rurale de Chinandega. Il n’est fait état d’aucun dégât et d’aucune victime.
L’éruption du San Cristobal est contrôlée par les autorités gouvernementales qui indiquent que 20 000 personnes sont susceptibles d’être évacuées. Actuellement, 3 000 personnes appartenant à cinq villages sont affectées par les gaz et la cendre du volcan.
Le San Cristobal est l’un des volcans les plus actifs du Nicaragua. Les dernières éruptions ont eu lieu en 1999, 2006 et 2008.

San Cristobal volcano erupted three times this morning, belching gas and ash 1,500 meters into the sky and forcing the evacuation of thousands of families in the rural department of Chinandega. No damages or injuries have been reported.
San Cristobal’s eruption is being monitored by the government officials that indicate it could result in the evacuation of 20,000 people. 3,000 people in five communities are being affected by gases and ash from the volcano.
San Cristobal is one of Nicaragua’s most active volcanos, registering recent eruptions in 1999, 2006 and 2008.
