Le volcan est toujours très actif et un millier de villageois ont dû être évacués pendant le week-end. Trois cents familles habitant sur le versant ouest du volcan, situé à 135 km de Quito, ont été évacuées par précaution. Elles dorment dans des abris provisoires pendant la nuit et sont autorisées à vaquer à leurs occupations (récoltes, bétail) pendant la journée. Plusieurs de ces familles ont demandé aux autorités de les reloger dans une zone plus sure.
The volcano is still very active and forced the evacuation of at least 1 000 villagers during the weekend. Three hundred families from 10 hamlets on the western slopes of the volcano, located 135km south-east of Quito, have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The measure involves moving people at night to shelters a safe distance away from the volcano. They are allowed to return by day to their homes to tend to their crops and animals. Several families have asked the authorities to resettle them in a safer area.
