Au matin du 23 novembre 2013, pendant que j’admirais les expositions photo de Montier-en-Der, un 17ème paroxysme a été observé au niveau du Nouveau Cratère SE de l’Etna. Il a donc eu lieu 5 jours après le précédent et a été marqué par un très rapide passage de l’activité strombolienne à celle de fontaines de lave. La colonne éruptive a atteint plusieurs kilomètres de hauteur et s’est dirigée vers le NE où une route a été fermée par précaution. Quatre couloirs aériens ont également été momentanément fermés à l’aéroport de Catane. Les coulées de lave ont été beaucoup plus courtes que celles du paroxysme des 16 et 17 novembre.

In the morning of November 23rd 2013, while I was visiting the photo exhibitions at Montier-en-Der, a 17th paroxysmal eruptive episode occurred at Mount Etna’s New Southeast Crater. It took place five days after the previous one and was characterized by a rapid evolution from Strombolian activity to lava fountains. The eruption column, several kilometers high, was charged with pyroclastic material that was dispersed by the wind toward north-east. As ecaution, a road was closed and for corridors were closed to air traffic in Catania airport. The lava flows were significantly less extensive than those emitted during the 16-17 November 2013 paroxysm.
