Hausse de la sismicité sur la péninsule de Reykjanes (Islande) // Increase in seismicity on the Reykjanes Peninsula (Iceland)

Alors que la presse islandais fait la Une de ses journaux avec la grève des femmes pour de meilleures conditions de travail et de salaires, la Péninsule de Reykjanes manifeste à sa façon avec une hausse significative de la sismicité au cours des dernières heures. Les secousses se situent dans la zone entre Grindavik et Fagradalsfjall, site de la dernière éruption. Certains événements ont atteint M 3,5 et M 4,5. Les hypocentres ont été localisés en moyenne entre 3 et 5 km de profondeur. Dans ma note du 20 octobre consacrée à cette région de l’Islande, j’évoquais la possibilité d’une nouvelle éruption d’ici Noël. L’inflation du sol est comparable à celle observée avant la dernière éruption.

While the Icelandic press is making headlines with the women’s strike for better working conditions and wages, the Reykjanes Peninsula is demonstrating in its own way with a significant increase in seismicity in the last few hours. The events are located in the area between Grindavik and Fagradalsfjall, site of the last eruption. Some events reached M 3.5 and M 4.5. The hypocenters were located on average between 3 and 5 km depth. In my post of October 20^th devoted to this region of Iceland, I mentioned the possibility of a new eruption by Christmas. Ground inflation is comparable to that observed before the last eruption.
