Cinquante ans après le célèbre funiculaire, un nouveau train devrait bientôt conduire les touristes au sommet du Vésuve. L’appel d’offre – à l’échelle européenne – a été lancé lundi. La nouvelle ligne utilisera les technologies de pointe tout en respectant l’environnement (des arrêts sont prévus pour l’observation de la flore et de la faune) et mettra tout juste 10 minutes pour atteindre le sommet du volcan. Ce sera peut-être le renouveau de la célèbre chanson Funiculi funicula, à moins que le Vésuve préfère d’ici là faire entendre une autre musique, beaucoup moins harmonieuse…. Rappelons que le vénéré funiculaire a cessé son activité suite aux dégâts irréparables causés par un séisme en 1944.

Fifty years after the famous funicular, a new train should soon whisk tourists to the top of Mount Vesuvius. A European-wide tender for the new project was published on Monday. The new line will use cutting-edge technologies while respecting the environment (there will be stops to observe the local flora and fauna) and will take 10 minutes to reach the summit of the volcano. Maybe people will sing again “Funiculi funicula”, unless Vesuvius had rather sing a less harmonious melody before the work is completed…. Let’s bear in mind that the famed funicular stopped working in 1944 because of irreparable damage caused by an earthquake.
