Etna (Sicile / Italie)

medium_drapeaufrancais.200.jpg La situation n’a pas évolué depuis hier.

medium_drapeau_anglais.194.jpgThe situation is stable on the volcano. The eruptive tremor is keeping a relatively low level. Lava is still flowing into the Valle del Bove from the vent located at 2800 m a.s.l. The vent that opened on December 1st is inactive at the moment. This morning the first sunrays were shedding a rosy light on the ash plume that was still coming out of the vent that pierces the eastern flank of the SE Crater. (A helicopter flight by the INGV this morning allowed to observe a slight strombolian activity in the vent). The ash cloud was blown towards Sapienza were it blackened the snow that fell a few days ago. After closing during the night, Catania airport reopened this morning at 7 o’clock.

Etna (Sicile / Italie)

medium_drapeau_anglais.193.jpgIt has been a quiet day on the volcano. This morning the usual plume of ash was coming out of the SE Crater and moving towards the south-east, with a slight ashfall on Catania, but which did not disturb the traffic in the airport.
The eruptive tremor is keeping a relatively low level.

medium_drapeau_anglais.192.jpgEven though the French press is quite silent about the event (but very talkative about a coach accident in Morocco!), the toll of the Durian typhoon is increasing hour after hour. The Red Cross believes that more than 1,000 persons were trapped and died under the mudslides, especially at the foot of the Mayon volcano which was the worst hit region.

Etna (Sicile / Italie)

medium_drapeau_anglais.191.jpgThis morning, a voluminous plume of grey ash is coming out of the vent on the eastern flank of the SE Crater. The plume is blown away towards the east, as a white cloud coming from the degassing of the other summit craters. The eruptive tremor is stable and lava keeps flowing down into the Valle del Bove. The local paper La Sicilia informs us that the airport of Reggio Calabria was closed last night for the first time, like its neighbour in Catania which was closed for the tenth time.
