Un séisme de magnitude M4,8, avec son hypocentre à une profondeur de 17 km, z été enregistré à 16h19 le 7 février 2025 un peu au sud des deux îles Éoliennes d’Alicudi et Filicudi. Aucun dégât n’a été observé sur les bâtiments. La secousse a été suivie de huit répliques pendant plus d’une heure, Après l’événement principal, l’INGV a enregistré des secousses de magnitude comprise entre M2,5 et M3,4 à une profondeur allant de 18 à 4 km. Selon l’INGV, ces séismes sont dus au mouvement de convergence entre la partie nord de la Sicile et la partie sud de la mer Tyrrhénienne. La zone affectée par les séismes se trouve dans une bande qui s’étend d’est en ouest, à peu près d’Ustica aux îles Éoliennes. C’est dans cette zone que la partie nord de la Sicile converge avec la partie sud de la mer Tyrrhénienne, générant des séismes de compression.
Des vibrations dans les habitations ont été ressenties à Messine et dans certaines communes de la côte tyrrhénienne. L’événement a également été ressenti à Palerme, notamment aux étages supérieurs des immeubles.

The tremor was followed by eight aftershocks lasting over an hour. After the main event, INGV recorded tremors of magnitude between M2.5 and M3.4 at depths ranging from 18 to 4 km. According to INGV, these earthquakes are due to the convergence movement between the northern part of Sicily and the southern part of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The area affected by the earthquakes is located in a band that extends from east to west, roughly from Ustica to the Aeolian Islands. It is in this area that the northern part of Sicily converges with the southern part of the Tyrrhenian Sea, generating compression earthquakes.
Vibrations in homes were felt in Messina and in some municipalities on the Tyrrhenian coast. The event was also felt in Palermo, especially on the upper floors of buildings.
