Le Groenland et le Danemark ont ​​exprimé leur mécontentement le 4 janvier 2026 après la publication par Katie Miller, épouse du conseiller le plus influent du président Trump, d’une photo du Groenland aux couleurs du drapeau américain. Elle a partagé cette image sur son compte X après l’opération militaire américaine contre le Venezuela. Sa publication était accompagnée du simple mot « Bientôt ».
Le Premier ministre groenlandais a qualifié la publication de « manque de respect ». Il a toutefois ajouté : « Il n’y a ni raison de paniquer ni de s’inquiéter. Notre pays n’est pas à vendre et notre avenir ne se décide pas sur les réseaux sociaux.»
Trump a maintes fois affirmé vouloir annexer le Groenland aux États-Unis. Les initiatives de son gouvernement s’inscrivant dans cette perspective, notamment la nomination d’un envoyé spécial auprès du territoire danois (voir ma note du 27 décembre 2025), ont suscité la colère de Copenhague et de l’Union européenne.
Trump a prétendu que l’annexion du Groenland servirait les intérêts de sécurité nationale des États-Unis, compte tenu de sa position stratégique dans l’Arctique. Le Groenland est également riche en terres rares utilisés dans les secteurs de haute technologie.

Greenland and Denmark on January 4, 2026 expressed their discontent after Katie Miller, the wife of President Trump’s most influential aide posted a social media picture of Greenland painted in the colours of the US flag. She put the image on her X feed after the US military operation against Venezuela. Her post had a single word above it: « SOON ».

Greenland’s Prime Minister called the post « disrespectful ». But he also said that « there is neither reason for panic nor for concern. Our country is not for sale, and our future is not decided by social media posts ».

Trump has repeatedly made clear that he wants Greenland to become an annexed part of the United States. Moves edging towards that goal by his government – including his appointment of an envoy to the Danish territory (see my post of 27 December 2025) – have drawn the ire of both Copenhagen and the European Union.

Trump has claimed that making the Danish territory part of the United States would serve US national security interests, given its strategic location on the Arctic. Greenland is also rich in key critical minerals used in high-tech sectors.
