Le 26 décembre, le gouvernement chilien a déclaré que la zone autour du volcan – qui est entré en éruption le 20 mai 2008, entraînant l’évacuation de 7000 personnes – n’est toujours pas sûre et qu’une décision concernant l’avenir de la ville de Chaitén sera prise dans les prochains jours. Le gouvernement n’a pas écarté la possibilité de déplacer carrément la bourgade et d’interdire l’accès à cette zone pendant les années à venir. Pourtant, un grand nombre d’habitants disent vouloir regagner leurs domiciles à Chaitén…

On December 26th, Chile’s government said the area surrounding the volcano, which started erupting on May 2nd and forced the evacuation of about 7,000 residents, was still not safe and that a decision regarding the future of the town of Chaiten would be made in coming days.
The government has not dismissed the possibility of relocating the small town and making the whole area a no-go zone for years to come, but many locals have said they want to return to their homes in Chaiten….
