Selon une dépêche de l’AFP, le volcan vient de connaître aujourd’hui une très violente crise éruptive avec de fortes retombées de cendres et des avalanches de blocs incandescents. Le bilan est lourd: un mort, 13 blessés et 60 disparus. Trois villages ont été dévastés par la coulée pyroclastique qui a dévalé le versant ouest, et une dizaine d’autres ont été sérieusement endommagés. Par ailleurs, 3 200 habitants des zones proches du volcan ont dû être évacués. Il semblerait que l’activité du volcan ait maintenant tendance à diminuer. C’est la plus violente éruption du Tungurahua depuis 1999. Le 14 juillet dernier, le volcan avait déjà connu une crise éruptive qui avait entraîné l’évacuation de 10 000 personnes.
According to the AFP press agency, the volcano has just gone through a very violent eruptive crisis today, with very dense ashfall and avalanches of incandescent rocks. The final toll is heavy: one person has died, 13 others have been injured and 60 are missing. Three villages have been wiped away by the pyroclastic flow on the western slope and a dozen others have been seriously damaged. Besides, 3,200 people living close to the volcano had to be evacuated. It looks as if the activity of the volcano is now decreasing. This is the most violent eruption since 1999. Last month, on July 14th, Tungurahua had already gone through another eruptive crisis that led to the evacuation of 10,000 persons.
