Alors que le mois de mai touche à sa fin, plusieurs volcans indonésiens ont vu leur niveau d’alerte évoluer au cours des dernières semaines. Le 28 mai, celui du Soputan est passé de 2 à 3 suite à une hausse de l’activité sismique. En revanche, le Sirung a été ramené à 2 le 25 mai, tout comme le Kawah Ijen le 13 mai et le Semeru le 2 de ce même mois.
En cliquant sur le lien ci-dessous, vous verrez un excellent reportage photo sur le Merapi. On y voit en particulier la zone sommitale et le dôme de lave en formation. Les zones d’incandescence montrent que le volcan reste bien actif et doit être très étroitement surveillé. Comme je l’indiquais dans une note précédente, un gonflement de l’édifice est observé depuis la dernière éruption de 2010.

As May is coming to an end, one can notice that the alert level of several volcanoes has changed during the past weeks. On May 28th, the alert level of Soputan was raised from 2 to 3 because of an increase in seismic activity. On the contrary, the alert level of Sirung was lowered to 2 on May 25th. So was the alert level of Kawah Ijen on May 13th and of Semeru on May 2nd.
By clicking on the link here below, you’ll see an excellent series of photos showing Mount Merapi and especially the summit area of the volcano. A lava dome is growing in the crater and the incandescent spots do confirm that the volcano is still active and should be closely monitored. As I put it before, the edifice has been inflating since the last 2010 eruption.
