11 heures: Le signal sismique est stable ce matin. Les scientifiques espagnols pensent qu’une nouvelle île pourrait émerger d’ici deux semaines si l’éruption se maintient à son niveau actuel.
Les habitants de La Restinga ont été autorisés à revenir chez eux, en dépit du fait que l’éruption se rapproche de la côte. Les autorités affirment avoir assez de temps pour évacuer à nouveau la population en cas d’urgence.
20 heures : Le tremor éruptif est stable ce soir. Les volcanologues espagnols pensent qu’il n’y a pas suffisamment de magma pour faire naître une nouvelle île. Pourtant, les images montrent un bouillonnement à la surface de l’océan, ce qui tendrait à prouver que l’éruption est proche de la surface. (voir vidéo ci-dessous)

Comme je l’indiquais précédemment, les habitants de La Restinga ont été autorisés à regagner leurs habitations. Certaines personnes s’inquiètent et pensent que le volcan pourrait exploser et devenir dangereux. Personnellement, je ne le crois pas. Si éruption aérienne il y a, elle ressemblera probablement à celle de Capelhinos aux Açores en 1957 – 1958. Cette dernière avait été observée et analysée à l’époque par le regretté Haroun Tazieff qui avait rassuré la population.
11:00: The seismic signal is stable this morning. Scientists indicate that if the eruption follows its course, there may be a new small island emerging within 2 weeks.
Residents of La Restinga have been allowed to return to their homes although the eruption is moving closer to the coast of the island. The authorities claim that they will have enough time to re-evacuate the population in case of emergency.
20:00: The eruptive tremor is stable tonight. Spanish volcanologists think there is not enough magma to cause an island to appear. However, local images show intense bubbling at the surface of the ocean, which suggests the eruption is close to the surface. (see video here below)

As I put it before, the residents of La Restinga have been allowed to return to their homes but some of them fear an explosive eruption that might be dangerous to them. Personally, I do not think this will happen. Should there be an eruption, it will probably be similar to the one in Capelhinos (Azores) in 1957-1958. This eruption was observed and analysed by the late Haroun Tazieff who reassured the population.
