Mont Redoubt (Alaska / Etats Unis)

Le 28 décembre au matin, l’Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) a fait passer au Jaune le niveau d’alerte pour l’aviation et a élevé à Vigilance le niveau d’alerte général du Redoubt. De petits séismes à répétition ont été enregistrés dans la zone sommitale du volcan. Ils font suite au calme qui a régné sur le volcan au cours des 5 derniers mois. Ils pourraient annoncer  un nouvel épisode d’activité ainsi qu’une nouvelle phase d’instabilité du dôme. Selon l’Observatoire, il est probable qu’un regain d’activité du volcan produirait un nuage et des retombées de cendre, avec un risque de coulées pyroclastiques et de lahars dans la vallée de la Drift River.  

In the morning of December 28^th, AVO elevated the Aviation Color Code to YELLOW and the Volcano Alert Level to ADVISORY at Redoubt Volcano. Small repetitive earthquakes began to occur in the vicinity of the volcano’s summit.  They represent a departure from seismicity at the volcano over the past five months and could be precursory to renewed eruptive activity at the volcano and increased instability of the lava dome. According to the Observatory, there is a heightened possibility of volcanic activity that would produce a volcanic ash cloud and associated ash fall, pyroclastic avalanches and lahars down the Drift River.
