Dans une de mes dernières notes sur les mesures prises pour lutter contre le « vog » (volcanic fog), ce brouillard volcanique qui recouvre périodiquement la Grande Ile, je mentionnais les purificateurs d’air mis à la disposition des écoles. Les avoir, c’est bien, pouvoir les utiliser, c’est mieux. Or, d’après un article paru dans la presse locale hawaiiienne, il semblerait que ce genre d’équipement ne puisse être mis en pratique car le câblage électrique de certains établissements scolaires est trop vétuste et il n’y a pas les fonds nécessaire pour le changer !
L’article rappelle la gêne occasionnée par le « vog » qui a, entre autres, entraîné l’annulation du Kilauea Volcano Marathon 2009. Chaque année, cette manifestation sportive attire un millier de participants et constitue une source de revenus pour le Volcano Art Center.
In one of my last notes about the measures that have been taken to fight against the « vog », the volcanic fog that periodically shrouds Big Island, I mentioned the air purifiers that have been distributed to the schools. It’s good to have them, but pointless if you can’t use them! Referring to an article in the Hawaiian press, it looks as if this kind of equipment can’t be used in some schools because the electrical wiring is too old and there are not the necessary funds to have it changed.
The article reminds us of the disturbance caused by the “vog” which has led to the cancellation of the 2009 Kilauea Volcano Marathon. Each year, this sporting event gathers some 1,000 runners for the benefit of the Volcano Art Center.
