Un point chaud sous le Groenland??!!

C’est nouveau, ça vient de sortir : le réchauffement climatique ne serait pas seul responsable de la fonte des glaces au Groenland !!! Des scientifiques de l’Université de l’Ohio y ont découvert un ‘point chaud’ qui pourrait être une autre cause du phénomène.
Au cours des dernières années, la glace du Groenland a fondu à la vitesse V. On a toujours pensé que la hausse globale de la température était seule responsable de cette situation, mais des scientifiques pensent avoir découvert un autre coupable. Il y aurait une fragilité de l’écorce terrestre sous la partie NE de la banquise qui permettrait à la chaleur du magma de s’infiltrer et donc de faire fondre la glace. Toujours selon ces scientifiques, il existerait au Groenland et en Antarctique des variations naturelles de l’épaisseur de la croûte terrestre qui feraient fondre la glace plus vite en certains endroits.
Toutefois, les scientifiques américains n’ont pas réussi à expliquer les causes de l’apparition récente de ce ‘point chaud’. Selon eux, il pourrait s’agir d’un volcan, mais plus probablement d’une variation naturelle de la répartition de la chaleur souterraine en fonction de la topographie des roches.
Conclusion: l’homme n’est pas responsable de la fonte de la calotte glaciaire du Groenland! Je suis certain qu’il y a aussi un point chaud sous les Alpes qui expliquerait le recul ultra rapide des glaciers ! La notion de ‘point chaud’ est très à la mode depuis quelques années en volcanologie, mais je ne pensais tout de même pas en voir apparaître un sous le Groenland !!! De là à penser que ces scientifiques soutiennent la position américaine vis-à-vis du Protocole de Kyoto, il n’y a qu’un pas que je franchis allègrement….

Scientists from Ohio State University have found there at least one natural magma hotspot that could be another cause of the phenomenon.
In recent years, Greenland’s ice has been melting faster and faster into the sea. The Earth’s rising temperatures have always been suspected to be the main culprit but clues to a new natural contribution to the melt arose when scientists discovered a thin spot in the Earth’s crust under the northeast corner of the Greenland Ice Sheet where heat from Earth’s depth could seep through. Under Greenland or Antarctica, natural variations in the crust make some parts of the ice sheet warmer than others.
What caused the hotspot to suddenly form is a mystery. According to the scientists, it could be that there’s a volcano down there but it’s probably just the way the heat is being distributed by the rock topography at the base of the ice.
Conclusion : Human activities are not responsible for the melting of the ice in Greenland! I’m sure there is also a ‘hotspot’ somewhere under the Alps, which would account for the fast recess of the glaciers! The notion of ‘hotspot’ has been fashionable in volcanology for a few years but I would never have thought there was a hotspot under Greenland!!! I’m not far from thinking these American scientists are supporting their President’s opinion towards the Kyoto Protocol…..
