L’Australie a ratifié lundi 3 décembre le protocole de Kyoto sur le changement climatique, lorsque son nouveau Premier ministre Kevin Rudd a signé l’instrument de ratification du protocole.
Il s’agit de la première mesure prise par M. Rudd après sa prestation de serment lundi matin.
Selon les directives de l’ONU, la ratification sera mise en oeuvre 90 jours après réception de l’instrument de ratification par les Nations Unis, faisant de l’Australie un membre à part entière du Protocole de Kyoto fin mars 2008.
Les Etats-Unis sont actuellement le seul pays développé qui a refusé de ratifier le Protocole de Kyoto.

On Monday December 3rd, Australia ratified the Kyoto Protocol about climate change when its new Prime Minister – Kevin Rudd – signed the ratification instrument of the protocol.
This has been the first measure taken by Mr. Rudd since he was sworn in on Monday morning
According to UNO’s instructions, the ratification will be official 90 days after the ratification instrument has been received by the United Nations; Australia will then be a full member of the Kyoto Protocol by the end of March 2008.
The United States is currently the only developed nation that has refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol.
