Les points d’incandescence apparaissent car la photo a été prise en pose longue. Ils montrent malgré tout que la température reste élevée au niveau du dôme et dépasse probablement 500°C. La plupart des points brillants sur la photo correspondent à des fumerolles. Seuls trois d’entre eux sont visibles à l’œil nu.
Il n’y a toutefois pas lieu de s’inquiéter outre mesure car l’emplacement de ces points d’incandescence est le même que le 11 novembre 2010, jour où on les a observés pour la première fois. Même s’il n’y a pas de nouvelle incandescence, celle présente actuellement confirme qu’il existe toujours une source de chaleur sous Soufriere Hills et que le système d’alimentation du volcan n’est pas fermé.

The points of incandescence were revealed thanks to a long exposure but they indicate that the temperature at the dome is quite high, at least 500°C. Many of the bright spots seen in the photo are related to fumaroles. Only three of the spots are visible to the naked eye. .
There is nothing to worry about as their locations are the same as those that were first observed on 11 November 2010. Although no new incandescent spots have appeared, the continued incandescence indicates that there is still a significant source of heat below Soufriere Hills and that the volcano has not shut down.
