Les images envoyées le 2 mai 2012 par le satellite Aqua de la NASA montrent qu’une éruption est en cours sur le Mont Curry dans les Iles Sandwich du Sud qui se trouvent au SE de l’Amérique du Sud dans une zone où la plaque sud-américaine plonge sous la microplaque des Sandwich. La région étant très peu peuplée, il sera difficile d’obtenir des informations sur cette éruption. Comme c’est le cas pour certains volcans des Aléoutiennes, les scientifiques ne pourront se fier qu’à des données transmises à distance.
The images sent on May 2nd 2012 by the NASA Aqua satellite revealed that an eruption was going on on Mount Curry in the South Sandwich Islands, to the SE of South America in an area where South America is subducting under the Sandwich microplate. As the region is sparsely inhabited, it will be difficult to get information and, like for some volcanoes of the Aleutians, scientists will have to rely on remote sensing to track this eruption.
